Challenge Accepted Game – Week #06

Dear IVIers,

The printing result of Week #05 has been released. Please click the link and check the details.

The filament of week #06: Translucent Orange PLA

Please share with us the model you want IVI to print below and get the chance to win a free 3D Scanner Module.

Due to the delayed release of this week’s filament, IVI team will select the model to be printed on Friday night at 21:00 PT.

Important reminders:

  1. There are no limits to the number of model parts but all the parts of the whole model need to be printed within 12 hours.
  2. Please don’t share models repeatedly in a single round. A picture of the model and a link to download the STL file should be included in the reply.
  3. If the shared model is not designed by you, please make sure you get the permission of the model creator to share in public. Name or page link of the creator should be included in the reply.
  4. The more likes you get for your shared model, the more chances we will print it. So please try to share as much information as possible and mingle with your fellow IVIers to get more likes.
  5. When the game ends on August 31, there will be three backers whose shared models are selected, printed and the likes of the prints rank in the top 3 will win a free 3D Scanner Module each.

Rules

  1. By sharing the model with us, you grant us the right to use it. IVI will not accept any complaints about the use of the shared model.
  2. IVI reserves the right to disqualify participants if there is any violation of the rules and regulations.
  3. IVI reserves the right to cancel or modify this Game at any time.
  4. Due to the R&D development time & production lead time, the shipping date of the 3D Scanner Module will be announced at a later time.

Looking forward to seeing your models~

Translucent is not easy. The object should be empty inside, so my proposal is this vase:

I propose this second model because I think vases or lamps are the best objects for this filament.

The download includes two files. One with a flat and one with a filled body. Please print Dragonfly2.STL (filled body) https://www.thingiverse.com/download:2197056.

This model by FlexionExtruder on thingiverse technically relies on filament swapping after the 1st, 2nd or 3rd layer, but this is not necessary. I would like to see the first 2 layers printed with the transparent filament after which you swap the filament for a different (perhaps flexible) one. But you can also just print the whole thing with the transparent filament.

I think the 1 layer thick wings plus the 2 layer thick wing walls would show off the translucency of the filament very well and would also show if there are any issues when removing the print from the print bed.
Optionally you can also show how the printer deals with a filament swap, although this is not necessary.

There are 2 quality levels to choose from, I wasn’t sure which would keep it within the peramitors (print time wise), so here is both links:

https://www.thingiverse.com/download:2985922 (Low = 262,466 tris)
https://www.thingiverse.com/download:2985928 (Mid = 1,052,064 tris)

If this was a project I’d did, I would then paint the Lady and back light the flames for affect

How about some Miniature terrain to use with small LED lights?

Haven´t found a good terrain with fire (which would fit perfect here…) but this one is also really good.

Halloween is just a few short months away what better what to show of your printing skills than with a Jack-o-lantern you can light up inside the house for decorating.

A light shade should be beautiful.

To show off the translucent color in the sun, how about something that looks like the sun itself. A sunflower:

My thoughts turned to fire and I checked out models of Ghost Rider (not enough flame), Calcifer (underwhelming model) and searched in vain for a good Flame Princess (what’s going on, creators?). Then I stumbled across this beauty. It’s a lovely model which will showcase the properties of the filament and test the smoothness of IVI’s printing along gradients.
Ladies, gentlemen… Dark Phoenix.

FYI this is the best Flame Princess I could find which is cute but lacks that fiery impact we want to see.

Great fiery color, I think it is suitable for maintaining a feeling of warmth and comfort at home.

The second option is also interesting.

By the way, here we could get a great combination of color with the previous filament (sparkling blue, unfortunately, unsuccessful).

Id submit the Kong Tower by Thinkibot

I would not suggest printing it at 100% scale however as its way to tall, and would surpass the time limit. but at say 50-75% i think it would provide a awesome timeline, a good test of precision as well as a great looking model.

Hi all,

I have updated my model of IVI. I have made it large and corrected the logo as it was upside down.

Dear IVIers,

Please check out the Translucent Dragonfly Necklace printed with Translucent Orange PLA. The model was shared by Syzygy, and designed by FlexionExtruder. Let’s check out the result!

We can say that this little dragonfly is easy to print, but the result really depends on the printer. This model doesn’t need support. We set 0.06 mm for raft airgap, which makes the first layer smooth and the model easy to peel off. Printing this model can be a perfect testing for the accuracy of extrusion.

See you in Week #07~
